This hollow back figural doorstop features an attractive young lady carrying flowers in one arm, and a long shawl in her other arm. The doorstop is in an abundance of excellent original paint, nicely hand painted with a yellow and tan bonnet, yellow and green flowers, a black vest with yellow buttons, a tan dress with nicely appointed yellow flowers throughout, and a beautiful yellow shawl with black trim. The condition of the doorstop is excellent with no restoration.
It is of the larger size doorstop variety, measuring 11 3/4″ high x 6 1/4″ wide x 2 1/8″ deep.
Probably of American manufacture, this is a hard doorstop to acquire, especially in this condition, and it is not referenced, in the Smith book on doorstops; but it is similar to others listed, so consequently, American made , circa 1915. The crazing and finish reveal an excellent patina.
Of unknown manufacture; the number “42” is stamped on the back (see image).
