“Puss In Boots” references the comical and clever feline character whose genesis goes back hundreds of years but maintains popularity to the present day. This highly collectible movable pop up hard cover book, from 1961, portrays the iconic character through some of his episodes and escapades and makes delightful reading to a toddler with each dynamic exciting turn of the page. The book was published by Bancroft and Company in London England in 1961 (First Edition). The vibrant artwork, color and thematic application was produced by world famous Czech illustrator Vojtech Kubasta and printed in that country. He also later became an innovator of three dimensional illustrated design.
The book contains (8) pop up pages with moving elements and sliding tabs; as a story is told with text below on the opposite page below. It is extremely fragile so to have a copy in working and original order is highly unusual.
This example is in very good condition with a sound and original binding; all of the pages turn and “activate”, and all of the illustrations are in their original colors with no touch up paint added. One figure, the sailor boy on page six, has been scotch taped but he still does his thing and pops up where he is supposed to. Beware of modern and later 1980’s reprints. Rest assured this is an authentic and original example (see image of date and origin particulars on last page (images). All in all, for those who collect children’s memorabilia this is a wonderful item to add to the collection.
