Simply a beautiful and well made “American Sampler On Linen” with initials “MCB” bordered in blue; in excellent and all original condition. A stitched green framed border; features inside, a fancy dressed woman and a formally attired gentleman holding a cane; both stitched in black—they appear to be dancing; probably mom and dad. The proverbial alphabet in blue lettering is neatly stitched above the figures, along with the date “1929”. Stitched “X” ‘s alternately in colors of blue and orange all around the frame, each with a mauve colored border.. Perhaps the “X” ‘s symbolize and convey “love”, that notation becoming commonplace after the 1880’s. Enclosed in a blue stitched border are what appear to be two dogs facing each other at the base.
The sampler is presented very nicely, under glass, and framed in a simple but suitable 1/2″ black wooden frame.
With meticulous attention to detail, the nearly 100 year old sampler is, as stated earlier, in excellent condition with bright pleasing colors, and there are no flaws, tears, repairs, staining. or restoration of any kind.
Provenance is from a recently acquired estate where it had been handed down, albeit, the genesis and name “MCB” could not be traced.
Dimensions:
actual sampler= 15 3/4″ high x 12 3/4″ wide
in frame= 16 3/4″ high x 13 3/4″ wide
