Pair Mid-Century Fine Quality Modernist Sterling Silver Candleholders by Carlo Camusso Circa 1955

Offered is a unique pair of sterling silver serpentine Mid-Century Modernist candleholders. They are of fine quality holloware tubular design, weighing 173 grams each (6 oz.) for a total of 346 grams the pair. The contemporary “S” shaped curvilinear motif is undoubtedly influenced by world renowned mid-century designer Marion Anderson Noyes (1907-2002) whose examples are in several American museums. I have seen a couple of other examples like these over the years, albeit, both were much smaller, lacking the regal scale and larger dimensions of this desirable pair. The Noyes style bud vase shaped candle cups with interior drip tray readily accommodate four normal size candles.

The hallmark designation on the underneath of each candleholder indicates “.925 Sterling Silver”. Additional markings indicate a logo and the maker, “Camusso”, along with “Made in Peru” as the country of origin (see close up image). Carlo Mario Camusso founded the company in 1933 and has since then, produced high quality silver items. Peru is one of the world’s top producers of silver and holds the largest global reserves.

The candleholders are in excellent and completely original condition with no repairs or restoration of any kind; maintaining a nice “sterling” patina to the surface throughout.
