Absolutely exquisite pair of operable mother of pearl high quality luxury Opera Glasses with fancy adjustable lorgnette handle and gilt metal mounts. Premium mother of pearl is strong in color, and was used in the making of these Victorian binoculars; unmarked but undoubtedly of French maker as this type of opera glass with mother of pearl embellishment (the finish design choice of the upper echelon of society) was their specialty. Not often found with the adjustable handle, these opera glasses were treated as an item, much like jewelry, with fancy accoutrements like a mother of pearl application made for the aristocracy.
The condition is excellent; the glasses and lenses are clean and functional; focusing knob is operable; the mother of pearl is beautifully applied to the surface, except for a 1/4″ piece of mother of pearl lacking at the top of the handle from usage, and under the left eyepiece–(see images). Comes with original red velvet pouch with brass loops and matching red striped string attachment.
