Cornelius Wouter Bouter (1888-1966) was a Dutch artist born in Gouda and best known for oil paintings of families and children of humble means.
He lived and worked in The Hague until 1928 at which time he moved to and painted in Voorburg through 1948. His work is sought after in both the United States and Canada and of course, in the Netherlands and Europe.
Subject matter of this painting depicts a young mother with her three young children in austere but comfortable surroundings.

There is ever so slight inpainting in four or five areas the size of a pencil eraser. These areas are not on faces or important areas, but rather “in the field”.
