Quite a unique and substantial heavy hand blown fine quality art glass paperweight from the Northern Bohemian region of turn of the century (1910) Czechoslavokia; consisting of a sulphide embedded directly into the molten (11) sharply cut faceted multi colored glass paperweight. It makes viewing the embedded portrait more dramatic and the plethora multi facets makes viewing the same object simultaneously at different magnifications.
There are five vertical facets. The portrait depicting an older couple and likely meant to be a keepsake (such as an anniversary), is installed on a three dimensional cameo made of white ceramic. Their clothing and hair style are typical of a date of 1910.. The bottom is made up of a series of multi colored swags to present a beautiful striking piece of art glass; the technique made famous by the Bohemian Czechs in the early 1900’s.
At 5 1/2″ high this example is quite rare and considered a “magnum” paperweight making it especially desirable, more so by the fact that it is in excellent and completely all original condition with no chips or cracks to this top of the line art glass antique.
Dimensions: 5 1/2″ high x 3 1/4″ wide
