Three piece Chinese famille rose fine quality porcelain ensemble set portraying a seated empress, flanked by a pair of attendants. The empress is seated in the typical Qing dynasty style red colored throne with six dragon heads placed on the armrests. The dragons are all different and skillfully hand painted in a multiplicity of vibrant colors. The seal on the underneath translates to “Fujian Huiguan” which indicates that the porcelain was handcrafted by the “Fujian Association of Fujian Guild Hall”; probably made early 20th century during the Republic in Dehua, China, and likely, from the workshop of acclaimed “Blanc de Chine” master sculptor maker, “You Changzi”, circa 1935.
The two beautifully hand painted porcelain court attendants to each side of the Empress are both prominent figures in Chinese society (as portrayed by the notable crimson and yellow robes). They likely provided council to the empress; the figure to the left in red holds a “branch of life”, symbolizing longevity and vitality. The figure to the right in yellow holds a Ruyi (scepter) which was a symbol of good fortune and power. Note the stamp on the underneath indicating that this pair, while of the same prestigious factory, are from a later post war date, say 1970, than the empress figurine.
The condition of all three pieces is excellent and completely original with no cracks, chips, or repaint or touch up restoration of any kind. The colors are as bright and crisp as when they were originally hand painted.
Of note, are the tiny and delicate vulnerable fingers of the empress which, miraculously, are still intact.
